Steve is a 42 year old man suffering from schizophrenia, had been receiving mental health care from the Adult Day Treatment Intensive program at the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center. With treatment, he was able to stabilize his symptoms, transfer to one of the Center’s outpatient programs and move from the Center’s Satellite group homes into his own apartment.

Steve was excited about these changes but was concerned about leaving his friends and support system he had developed. At his counselor’s suggestion, he began visiting the Center’s Victory Clubhouse. The program provided at the Clubhouse has given Steve the opportunity to socialize with his peers, engage in meaningful client-driven activities and has encouraged him to achieve greater independence.

Who Seeks Help at the Victory Clubhouse?

The Victory Clubhouse is open to all adult mental health clients throughout the SanFernando Valley. For people like Steve, who have achieved some independence but still need support and social interaction, the Victory Clubhouse offers a safe environment.

What Services are Provided By the Victory Clubhouse?

The Clubhouse provides a place to learn new social skills, to engage in a wide range of educational and recreational activities, to relax and to give and receive support. Under the guidance of a program coordinator, clients (called “members) govern the program and develop and implement the recreational and educational activities.

How the Victory Clubhouse Program Can Help

The Victory Clubhouse offers the opportunity for members to work toward individual goals, participate in self-help groups, organize and participate in outings and activities, and rediscover talents they may have enjoyed prior to the onset of mental illness.

Through participation in activities at the Clubhouse, members can maintain the progress they have achieved from mental health care and treatment.  ?They can share their skills, talents and ideas. The can interact with peers, lending emotional support and can become active and positive members of the community.

Members also receive information and education about advances in mental health treatment and current legislation which affects mental health programs.  ?For those members preparing to return to the work force, several work units are offered, providing special projects to assist them in assessing and developing job skills and to build confidence.
