Jeffery, a 45 year old man suffering from schizophrenia, was referred to the Independent Living program by his Day Treatment/Rehabilitation team. ?He wishes to live independently and had been participating in Day Rehabilitation to improve his life skills.
Shortly thereafter, Jeffery moved into the Center’s Satellite Housing, a semi-independent living program, where he participated in independent skills training, community meetings, activities and social events with other residents. After six months, he had saved money and could cook, shop, budget and clean for himself.
With the assistance of his counselors, Jeffrey then applied for a Section 8 certificate and was accepted. He moved into his own apartment in the community where he resides today. He continues to receive intensive case management services through the Independent Living program and is an active member of the Center’s Clubhouse.
